It had a bold stylish stance, “The Cheetah” design it was called, it was spacious, packed with a strong diesel engine which made highway driving a breezy affair and it was loaded to the brim with the technology of that time. Yes, this was Mahindra’s Flagship SUV.

The Indian company also launched the Mahindra Thar in August 2020 and it turned to be a massive hit. With Mahindra now offering the 5 and 7 seater options, at least on paper one can say Mahindra has left no stone unturned to make their flagship SUV a hit. The plan is to remove the XUV 500 from the current lineup however Mahindra has expressed the idea of bringing it back by 2024, as a direct rival to the Hyundai Creta and its segment.

Before we head on to more details about the car, let’s take a look at the new technologically advanced features list this Mahindra XUV700 brings!
What the Mahindra XUV700 Offers
If you start with a visual appeal all one needs to do is take one look at the doors of this SUV. Surprisingly there’ll be no handles! Yes, the Mahindra XUV 700 houses the all-new flush door handles which pop out once you approach the car, which gives you a noteworthy feeling. Once you get inside the cabin, you’ll get a completely new view, right from the new logo on the steering wheel to the all-digital 10.25-inch touch screen panel for the infotainment system as well as the instrument cluster. The Mahindra XUV 700 debuts their AdrenoX infomatics, being home to features not just best in class, but also from cars several classes higher, including local apps for usage such as Justdial, Zomato, etc. And to pair with this, Sony provides this car with its amazing 3D sound system with one subwoofer, 12 speakers including 4 of them in the roof itself alongside Alexa’s voice assistance which aids you to know the updates of your car and assistance right from the comfort of your home. Also, inspired by Mercedes, the Mahindra XUV 700 brings the powered driver seat adjustment buttons on the door handle, easy access steering mounted controls and of course the Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS)!
Safety & Comfort
The Advanced Driver Assistive System, The ADAS, is a feature scene on premium cars only, and having brought this to the Mahindra XUV 700 shows how dedicated they’ve been to provide top-notch safety to their vehicles. In fact, the XUV300 comes with a five star Global NCAP Crash rating. The ADAS on the Mahindra XUV 700 uses the camera as well as radar paired with its autonomous emergency brakes to detect any vehicle or obstacle in its path, automatically slow down the vehicle or even get it to a standstill. The car also brings along adaptive cruise control for you to enjoy your drive handsfree following another car, you can also use smart pilot or traffic assist to have an effortless driving experience even in the start-stop traffic conditions.
The Mahindra XUV700 with all these additions houses the same seating comfort as earlier, with a wide middle row to fit in three passengers and a decent third row too with sufficient under-thigh support makes its cabin worth spending the long highway journey. The little disappointment though can be the placement of the rear AC vents, from earlier being placed at the door sides, to now at the driver hand rest box it can be an issue which the passengers might find. Overall, the car is expected to live up to its great list of safety features without compromising on its comfort at all!
Engine & Specifications
Mahindra has tried hard to keep the weight off this vehicle as much on the lower side of its predecessor as possible to bring quicker acceleration and easier handling. Under the hood of this Mahindra XUV700, we find the 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine, and the 2.0-litre mStallion petrol motor with a positively higher power output by delivering 185bhp on the diesel motor and 200bhp on the petrol. Both the petrol and diesel engines are mated with 6-speed gearboxes for the automatic as well as the manual variant where you can find a gush of power from as low as 1400rpm and can rev up to as high as 5800rpm giving you the entire experience of checking out the engines maximum capacity.
The Mahindra XUV700 does touch a 0-100kph mark in close to 10 seconds however on the downside, test drive reviews show that the gearboxes aren’t among the slickest options, as there can be a gentle amount of lag in gear-shifting while you’re rushing the vehicle, in city traffic, however, the car delivers just a fine simple performance which is sufficient to deal with. Both the engines are well-refined units with very minimal sound levels. While the car does deliver a great amount of power and speed its handling on the highways has become far better with a lower amount of body roll and a superb road grip to ensure smooth and comfortable handling of the car with a relaxing drive for all the passengers. Yes, this is a big improvement from the outgoing XUV500.

The AX series will consist of all the feature-loaded variants being the AX3, AX5, AX7. We have to say that the on-road pricing of Mahindra XUV700 is truly mouth-watering considering the offerings of the SUV.
The MX series, although being lower-spec shall have a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with an all-digital instrument cluster, Android Auto, day/night Internal Rear View Mirrors (IRVMs) and power-adjust Outside Rear View Mirrors (ORVMs) with built-in turn indicators as well while the AX models hold all the bells and whistles to expect right from the panoramic sunroof, powered driver seat, a larger display along with voice assistance, flush door handles to pop out when you approach the car, etc. Mahindra providing valuable features as standard makes the car a far more lucrative option over its rivals.
As per various reports, Mahindra XUV700’s waiting period could cross one year in the foreseeable future. Mahindra opened bookings for the latest SUV in the first week of October and it sold out 50 thousand units in a small booking window of just 3 hours. That’s approximately 105 crores generated in three hours and this is only the booking amount of Rs. 21000. According to Mahindra, they have sold Mahindra XUV700 SUV’s worth 9500 crores. No company in the past has managed to generate a tremendous response such as this.
One look at the list of features and specifications of the car is enough to express that Mahindra has done a great job at bringing luxury at an affordable price range. Yet, some thoughts can linger on while selecting the Mahindra XUV 700 as well.
Firstly, Mahindra has had an indifferent success ratio in the market, if the Scorpio did well, the sedans fail to impress, while the XUV won praise for its subsequent model the KUV 100 or the TUV 300 were off the market as soon as they arrived. To cap it all, The Alturas G4, The flagship SUV Mahindra launched with all the best in class features to rival the likes of the Toyota Fortuner and the Ford Endeavour failed to cement its place in the market and eventually has been announced to be discontinued.
Yes, the new Mahindra XUV700 does come as a completely fresh offering, with a new logo, new design, new features in short providing everything that premium SUV owners get for a price nearly half than those high-level cars, it still remains a question as to how well this car is going to perform once it actually hits the Indian roads. For now, one must admit, Mahindra has done a fabulous job at keeping this car as unique in features as well as high on practicality to woo the buyers with glee! Will this new Mahindra XUV 700 be a success story to make Mahindra the undisputed Lord of the SUVs? That remains to be seen.
