Is Maruti Suzuki India's leading automobile manufacturer?
Maruti Suzuki has been a common name to nearly every household in India ever since it began its journey in India. Generally, a family’s first car would tend to be a Maruti Suzuki. But is this legacy still intact? Over the years as the competition among automobile manufacturers has grown manifold, it has given people a plethora of options to choose from, and Maruti Suzuki has not been quick to be a part of the new approach among carmakers leading up to the future. For instance, for the past two years, since 2020, Maruti Suzuki has had a very quiet time in the industry, with no new cars being launched and a drastic fall in the number of sales as well as its share price taking a plunge towards the end of 2021, this is certainly one of the times where Maruti Suzuki would need to rise up to the occasion and get back in contention to be India’s favourite automobile brand.
After facing ample obstacles through the form of the global semiconductor shortage, discontinuation of the diesel motors as well as two Covid-19 waves, Maruti Suzuki is finally gearing up for an exciting 2022. With as many as 8 cars in the lineup from Maruti Suzuki this year, including several facelifts for their cars which are already popular as well as exciting new launches, will the year 2022 finally be Maruti Suzuki’s dazzling come back or they will watch their sales graph go further down as the people find the competition to be a better choice, remains to be seen?

Is Maruti coming with electric cars?
The electric vehicles segment is where Maruti Suzuki faces its biggest setback. Presently the time and conditions for launching electric vehicles is optimum and capitalised well by competitors, whereas Maruti plans to introduce their first EV as late as 2025. RC Bhargava, Chairman, Maruti Suzuki India, states it expects to enter the EV market when it can forecast a sale of around 10,000 units per month. At a time when Tata Motors is establishing dominance over the EV sector with a wide range of electric vehicles as well as contributing towards setting up charging infrastructure across the country, Maruti Suzuki’s delay in venturing into electric vehicle production might backfire heavily and disturb the chances of having a good market share. Electric Vehicles have been gaining popularity steadily over the years and the Covid-19 pandemic has given rise to a completely new race for introducing EVs across the country, and seeing among India’s most popular automobile manufacturers not eager to produce one does take one by surprise.
Ever since the Covid-19 pandemic began, Maruti Suzuki has had a quiet stay in the automobile industry with no new launches over the course of two years, Maruti does intend to make its way back into the market, with eight launches lined up in 2022, it will be interesting to see how these cars perform, however, an EV launch is certainly the need of the hour owing to not just the rising fuel prices but also the unending harm being caused to the environment, the sooner Maruti Suzuki bring in an EV, the better it would be for their entry in this segment and thus further bolster Maruti Suzuki’s new car launches.
